KVK, the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce is on a mission to guide entrepreneurs regarding legislation, regulations and social themes for safe and responsible business. At KVK a practice of 20 Product Designers’ perspective and experience advances their mission. They work hard to foster an inclusive, accessible, and safe public environment.
 
 
 
 

What brought me to the KVK

In late 2023 they were looking for a designer who’s a passionate advocate for the voice of the customer and can foster and evangelise user-centred design principles in the organisation. My role has an end-to-end responsibility - from early discovery and ideation to final execution and delivery - creating and optimising features that make a material impact on (aspiring) entrepreneurs’ lives, as well as helping us to achieve our business goals. My predecessor had 5 years of experience in the organisation and together we had a 4-month timeline to handover 5 products.

Focussing on the aspiring entrepreneur

Playing a key role in multiple product teams - through planning design-thinking activities and conducting user research, to designing user-flows, testing prototypes and studying data, I continuously help guide and enhance our offering products and service around online registration, appointments, and tooling on the front of the organisation.

Learnings

What I’ve learned is that having a strong vision for the future is important. However, it’s also critical to set measurable and tangible goals in much closer time (especially in big corporations). The key thing here is to have both. In order to align both business strategy with all the talented teams and individuals, you need both a distant vision that inspires you, and a closer plan that helps you get there.
